Book Testimonials

I have spent many sessions and handed out lots of articles in the past to clients explaining MFR, but this "little green book " is small, succinct, answers the important questions, written in layman's terms, and doable -- people know they can get through it in no time at all (and it fits nicely into their purses!). HALLELUJAH FOR THE LITTLE GREEN BOOK!! - Liz

These books save me a lot of time trying to explain the process to patients. They understand quicker and I am able to achieve better results quicker. - Jill

The Patient's book was easy to read and easy to understand. I feel it really helped me progress quicker in my treatment. - Steve

After suffering a near fatal automobile accident, I went through a couple of years of physical therapy that was helpful in relieving some of the residual pain, but the relief was of short duration. My doctor suggested a new approach: Myofascial Release therapy. I have just completed a year-long treatment with Edie Bernhardt, trained in this type of physical therapy. As part of my treatment, Edie gave me to read “A Patient’s Guide To Understanding John F. Barnes Myofascial Release – Simple Answers to Frequently Asked Questions” by Cathy Covell, PT. Edie had stressed that reading the book was key to understanding the therapy because a very big part of the therapy was metal and psychological. It was indeed! It is only after reading Ms. Covell's book, that I begun to get the full benefit of the thereapy. It was essential for me to understand why Edie was treating areas that didn't hurt, why my symptoms moved around to areas previously free of them, and why symptoms developed in areas she was not working on. Without this education, I would be tempted to wonder what she was doing.

Ms Covell's book also stresses the emotional components which Edie had explained to me: the importance of "letting go", letting your body go into spasms of emotion, allowing yourself to weep freely as the buried emotions swell up. This is a deeply personal treatment, as I have experienced. Once I understood that, healing which seemed so difficult to achieve became easier. This is a book one needs to own and read from time to time to reconnect with the inner self.

I give one to every one of my patients. It just makes such a world of difference! - Shelly

Therapist -

My client's second appointment was quite a challenge. She was angry, hurting and accusatory. I did my best to assure her that this work does not injure and explained the healing crises. The session was difficult for both of us. I worked to instill trust while she had spasms with the slightest touch. She was still very angry after the session and I gently made it clear that it was her choice how to proceed. As she was leaving, I impulsively grabbed one of Cathy's books and gave it to her without expectations. She didn't schedule another appointment.

To my pleasant surprise, she called the following week and was a very different human being. She was bright eyed and her shoulder and sciatic pain were gone. She said that she was so upset after the last session that she delayed her ride home and walked and walked. She then went to Whole Foods and sat and read Cathy's book. She exquisitely described an easing of all her ailments, anxieties and fears as she read the book and allowed the releases to happen. - Nancy Murray BSN, MA

Client -

Cathy Covell's book, A Patient's Guide to Understanding John F. Barnes Myofascial Release, is an invaluable tool for patients, as well as anyone wanting to have a clearer understanding of Myofascial Release. Her narrative style is highly accessible and can help the most hesitant of patients to relax and trust the process and their body's ability to return to a balance and peaceful state. - Claudia Anne Zadro
